Delicious marinade and simple to make beef skewers that little hands simply love! Allergy friendly beef recipe for family meals.
Serves: 12
  • 400g stir fry beef (or strips of rump steak cut to ½cm thickness)
  • 1tbsp rice bran oil (or peanut oil)
  • Juice from 1 small lime
  • 1tsp brown sugar
  • 1tsp ground coriander
  • 2 pinches of ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp coconut aminos (or soy sauce)
  • 12 small wooden skewers soaked in water
  1. Soak the wooden skewers overnight or for a few hours at least to avoid burning over the heat.
  2. Make the marinade and soak the beef for at least 2 hours. For best results try for longer than 6 hours.
  3. To make the marinade, combine the oil, lime juice, sugar, ground coriander, black pepper and coconut aminos in a glass bowl. Add the strips of beef and coat well. Cover and refrigerate.
  4. Thread the skewers with about 3 beef strips per skewer. The desired size for these skewers is about 5cm from the top and 1.5 cm in width. Any bigger and they will take longer to cook and dry the beef out a bit on the edge. The smaller the easier for kids - their mouths don't open that wide remember!
  5. When it is time to cook, I used a shark tooth stove-top gril. You could also use a pan, plancha or BBQ. Or even grill them under a grill. They only need 2 minutes on each side. Overcooking them may make them dry out.
